About Adamson Leather

Hi,

Leather making and working are part of international career that spans centuries of an age old tradition. I have a love and passion in working with leather and I am improving everyday and always have something new to learn. I personally love hand stitching and working with vegetable tanned leather. It gives me a great sense of pride to work with leather and to be able create something by hand from start to finish.
I started working with leather when I was a teenager. My father Brendan was a trained leather craftsman and his father before him. I was never officially trained as a leather craftsman but over the years working with my father I watched and learned from him and ultimately ended up loving it.

I worked in Adamson Luggage since 1989 when I finished my leaving cert exams in school. There, we sold and repaired luggage and all our repairs where done by hand and not by machine. Sadly in 2021 we had to close our company for good due to COVID19 and the impact it had on the travel industry where we simply could not afford to trade anymore as retail was closed for such a prolonged period of time. As a small business this was gut wrenchingly hard but ultimately it was the only decision that we were left with to make.

So I have since decided that I would go back to my roots and start up my own company in the hopes of following in my families footsteps.

Originally I was going to call the company MAIRINLEATHER after the passing of my mum "Maureen" in 2020 but the feedback I got from people was that they may not be able to pronounce the name. Then I decided that it would be best to continue with the family name as it has been used for over 3 generations and it would be silly not to continue it on.

So I am delighted to be able to call my company Adamson Leather and somehow keep the tradition of leathercraft in my family.
John
